Two men tried to slam into the main gate of the National Security Agency at Fort Meade on Monday. One person was killed and another is seriously injured after NSA security prevented them from entering.
The two men dressed as women in order to penetrate the main entry with their vehicle. They were driving a Ford Escape SUV, which was reported stolen.
One intruder is confirmed dead on the scene; the other is severely injured and not likely to survive. At least one officer suffered minor injuries.
“The incident has been contained and is under investigation,” said Col. Brian Foley, Fort Meade garrison commander. “The residents, service members and civilian employees on the installations are safe. We continue to remain vigilant at all of our access control points.”
Agents were interviewing witnesses with the NSA’s own police force. Also, an FBI team was collecting evidence at the crime scene, according to Amy Thoreson, an FBI spokesman.
This event is still under investigation by FBI, NSA security, and Army Criminal Investigation Command.
