Badger Football is back in action for the 2015 season. The #7-nationally ranked Snow Badgers opened the season with a win over Mesa Community College, escaping with a 24-21 victory.
Stefan Cantwell passed for 246 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions while Greg White ran for 77 yards in contribution to the 393 yards of total offense amassed by the Badgers. “We came out strong. We came out pushing,” linebacker Lee Johnson said of Snow’s effort on Saturday. “We could have done a little better with everything, but we came out and got the W.” Tight end Brandon Jones, when asked about the game, answered, “We picked it up in the end. We’ve definitely got a long way to go.”
Both offenses came out sputtering throughout the first half, with the halftime score at 0-0, but the Badgers came out in the second half firing on all cylinders, amassing 17 points in the 3rd quarter alone, but Mesa fought back in the fourth cutting it back within three. A failed attempt at an onside kick by the Thunderbirds sealed the win for the Badgers. “I thought we were good. It was good for a first game. We’re just going to get better after that,” cornerbacks coach Aaron Rambo said. “We learned some things, saw some things on film. We’ll be a lot better after this week.”
The Badgers have a bye this week, meaning they advance to the next round of the season unopposed, and will be on the road to face #4-ranked Arizona Western on September 12.
