Snow College’s Black Student Union recently attended “Expect the Great” conference in Salt Lake City.
The conference was hosted by Salt Lake Community College, Friday, November 7 to Saturday, November 8. All the Black Student Union organizations from the universities and colleges in Utah attended this exclusive event. Students got to attend a networking extravaganza on Friday night, which was then followed by a social with food, cocktails, talent showcase, dancing, and of course, networking.
The conference focused on offering a college and career event for members of the African/African American / black communities with the purpose of providing information, resources, and support. Students attended workshops and met with prospective employers for internship opportunities.
The conference kicked off with Dr. Hopkins. His keynote was fun and educational and definitely one not to ever forget. The Black Student Union presidents from each school got to be on a panel together. On this panel, they were asked various questions about how they promote diversity on campus and what organizations are involved. The students answered these questions to an audience of about two hundred and fifty people. Some of the students in attendance agree that this conference was probably one of the most amazing experiences ever. Not only did students get information, but also got to make new friends and network with other Black Student Union organization members from different colleges.
