Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has arrived. The second movie based around the character hit box offices last weekend, to the tune of 95 million dollars. That total was good enough to earn it the title of highest grossing opening weekend ever for the month of April, outdoing Fast Five, which held the previous record after rounding up 85.6 million in the April of 2011.
The flick, starring Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, has opened to extremely positive reviews so far, with critics on Rotten Tomatoes giving it an 89% positive rating. Audiences are also reacting well, with 95% of users giving the movie a positive review.
By comparison, the first installment in the Captain America movie set opened to 65 million dollars, and finished with just over 176 million. Winter Soldier has already eclipsed the 100 million mark and is well on its way to surpassing the first movie.
