The Obama administration wants to start tracking personal drones and address all of the dangers that drones can lead to. This holiday season many more will be sold. But now in order to fly a drone you need to have a registration for it. Everyone needs to have a drone aircraft registration to fly a drone. Even people that just fly drones as a hobby. The point of all of this is because some people have not been flying their drones responsibly. People have been flying their drones very dangerously.
Some people fly drones with no legal permission and use it. Some people have used drones for domestic spying on people. Drones give you an eye in the sky. You can go anywhere you want and see anything you want. That worries people. That is why the Obama administration is in a bid to start tracking personal drones. Federal Aviation Administration Chief Michael Huerta said “Registration will increase pressure on operators to fly responsibly, and people that don’t fly responsibly will face consequences.”
The FAA and the transportation department are making a team of twenty five to thirty people that will recommend which drones should be registered and which drones should be exempt. Little toy-like drones that can only fly a few hundred feet are not as risky as the big heavy drones that can fly a couple thousand feet. The FAA and the transportation department are working on what type of drones will be registered and what drones will not need to be registered. The FAA is trying to get registration rules set up before Christmas. They don’t want more drones to be out in the air before the registration rule is enforced.
There was a video on YouTube that sparked up an FAA investigation. Eighteen year old Austin Haughwout found out how to attach a gun to a drone. The YouTube video shows a drone in the air with a gun attached to it. The gun is firing while the drone is flying. This video got 3 million views and got a lot of controversy has come up from the video. This is why the Obama administration wants to start tracking personal drones. Because kids like Austin Haughwout use them in dangerous ways.
There is also a video of Austin getting slapped in the face by a woman because she believes that he was using the drone to stalk woman on the beach. There have been many stories like this involving drones.
