Over Labor Day weekend, a fire broke out in Wasatch County near Deer Creek Reservoir due to an ATV catching fire on private property.
What has become known as the “Wheeler Fire” has since then burned over 320 acres and is only 5 percent contained as of Tuesday morning. Firefighters continue to work on putting out the blaze with air support and ground crews.
Many residents near the area have been advised to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice in case the fire turns toward houses and cabins in the area.
The Wheeler fire has been one of the few fires this year and one of the farthest north that we have seen. This has been good for Utah as the state hasn’t had to fight any particularly large fires such as one’s seen in Idaho, California, and other Northwestern states.
