Born in Karlsruhe, Germany while escaping the Bosnian War, Alen Hajric is a first-generation college student attending Snow College as a freshman.
Alen grew up in Magna, Utah and graduated from Cyprus High School as Senior Class President. His first language was Bosnian. He started skateboarding at the age of seven because of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. When asked about his proudest moment he said, “My proudest moment came when I got my first skateboarding sponsorship at age fifteen after my junior high teacher told me I wouldn’t get anywhere with skateboarding.” He is now sponsored by Half and Half Skate Shop. Alen is now preparing to intern at The Berrics, one of the largest skateboarding companies, in Los Angeles, California this summer.
What attracted Alen about Snow College is the affordable and great education he receives from his professors. He commented that he loves that his professors care about their students and the one-on-one attention they provide. On his two-hour journey from Magna to Ephraim, he likes to listen to Snoop Dogg, Chance the Rapper, and Taylor Bennett. One of his favorite memories at Snow College is the first day of school when he reconnected with an old friend at Snow and talked until five in the morning.
While he does not know what major to pursue, Alen wants to find a career where he can travel across the globe and communicate with people of different backgrounds. Alen’s goal every morning is to wake up with a smile on his face, no matter how big or small the problems are in his life.
“Alen is the person you can always count on… to finish your food. He’s like my own personal garbage disposal. All jokes aside, he is the greatest example of love, friendship, and compassion. I am glad I have the privilege of calling him my friend,” said Kenna Bylund, a Snow College student who went to high school with Alen. If there’s something Alen wants people to remember about him, it’s that he always has a smile on his face.
Alen Hajric is a student that is worth getting to know here at Snow College. His diverse background and interesting lifestyle will leave anyone, listening to his stories, in awe and with abs of steel from laughing too hard. If anyone sees Alen cruising down the street on his skateboard, be sure to say hi and smile along the way.
