Latinos in Action (LIA) is a club on campus that encourages leadership and strengthens the community. They are a volunteering group that is breaking the stereotype of Latino youth dropping out of high school and pushing them to continue a secondary education. This club helps first generation college students navigate their way through school. According to they focus on four pillars which are leveraging personal and cultural assets, excelling in education, serving the community and developing leadership skills. When LIA President, Aubren Lopez, was asked her favorite thing about LIA she said, “I’d have to say my favorite thing about Latino’s in Action is the people. There are so many people with so many different backgrounds, and every meeting we learn so much about each other and their cultures. It’s given Latino’s a safe space to spread their culture and meet people who share common interests. I love hearing everyone’s stories, and making new friends from all over the world.”
