“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” says the new Star Wars character, Supreme Leader Snoke in one of the latest adverts for the upcoming film. Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon that transcends generations and, as the Giants-Eagles game entered half-time Monday night, both Star Wars fans and football fans alike were treated to a new trailer for the latest installment in the thirty-plus-year franchise: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Austin Able, a Snow sophomore majoring in Communications with an emphasis in cinematography commented on the trailer saying, “The Star Wars cinematic trailer is one of the most expertly cut trailers to be produced in movie history.”
Able, a student studying film, and life-long Star Wars Fan went on to say “The style in which the trailer was cut, the transitions, the sound effects, and the cinematic style overall was a masterpiece. It grabbed, it played at the heartstrings of fans and grasped on to everything that we [as fans] love about Star Wars.”
The conclusion of the long-awaited look at the upcoming film revealed that advanced tickets went on sale at approximately 8 PM Tuesday night. As many fans tried to access one of several ticket sales websites like Fandango and websites for popular movie theater chains like Megaplex, and Cinemark, the huge influx of users accessing the sites crashed the servers, leaving many frustrated and with less-than-desirable seats.
Several theaters in the area will be showing advance screenings of the film, as well as special events like the seven movie marathon hosted by the Megaplex 20 at The District theatre in South Jordan.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Harrison Ford, and picks up 30 years after the events of the previous film Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. The film will be released in theaters across the world on December 18.
