Snow College remembers its student Zachary “Zach” Randall Zitting, a freshman in his first semester, who passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Zach was a first generation college student and involved with the Student Support Services branch of Snow’s Trio Program. Sara Golding, an advisor in Student Support Services, remembered him as eager and excited to begin his classes.

“He was very soft-spoken and kind,” Golding recalled. “I was one of the lucky ones that got to meet him.”

Alongside cousins who were more like siblings, Zach was raised by a devoted aunt and uncle, Angie and Tom Webber. He lived with his family in West Valley City and graduated from Cyprus High School before moving to Ephraim to attend Snow.

In an obituary published by Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home, his family described him as funny, adventurous, loving, and a man of few words who spoke with depth and meaning. “He was stubborn yet incredibly smart. His smile, eyes and laughter could light up a room,” the obituary described.

Zach was taking a bowling class at Snow and had many passions, including gaming, guitar, and a host of outdoor sports, including golfing, ice fishing, hunting, and watersports, among others.

A GoFundMe page for Zach and his family was created on Saturday, September 30, and at the time of publication had raised about a quarter of its $10,000 goal.

On the GoFundMe page, Zach’s aunt Angie Webber gave this message to those who have reached out: “I am so overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and support that we have received in the last few weeks from friends, family and total strangers,” she wrote.

“He was the most loving, grateful and caring young man I knew. He will be missed and thought of every day for the rest of my life. I will never let him be forgotten. I love you Zach. Thank you to everyone.”

Funeral services were held in West Valley City on Wednesday, October 4. Students are encouraged to offer their condolences to the family. Any students struggling in the wake of Zach’s loss are welcome to visit the Counseling and Wellness Center, located in the Social Science building on campus.
