Shaun White, a professional snowboarder, has just made history for United States extreme sports in the Olympics.

White, a competitor in the Winter Olympics, X Games, and Red Bull sponsored events, has just claimed another gold medal for Team USA at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. His amazing Olympic run in the freestyle halfpipe competition gave the United States its 100th gold medal. Shaun White crowned his third Olympic medal landing an amazing back to back 1440’s on halfpipe this week despite placing fourth to Switzerland’s Iouri Podladtchikov at Sochi four years ago. White had a hunger for the crown entering the event. Both his competitors had tremendous runs in the first half of the championship. Ayumu Hirano, a 19-year-old, who before White was the first snowboarder to land back to back 1440’s.

During his second run, White fell resulting in docked points. As the last run approached, White knew he had to step up. During his final run White risked it for the crown and landed back to back 1440’s, crowning him over his competitor Ayumu and fellow competitor for the United States, James. The United States had two podium places in the freestyle halfpipe competition. James who had a lead in front of White after the second round placed bronze, giving the United States another medal in one event. Shaun White’s name will be remembered with those like Lebron James, Tom Brady, and Derek Jeter.
