Starting the season with a seven game losing streak, the Snow College Softball team found their stride in Rangely, Colorado against the Colorado Northwestern Spartans. They took all three games over March 23-24. Though the season has been rough, the Lady Badgers are confident they have what it takes to be champions.
Pre-season play showed promise and prowess. The Lady Badgers played in the Midland Spring Softball Classic in Texas, and came home with a spectacular 8-2 record. Thanks to phenomenal defense and pitching by freshman pitcher Sadie Clark and Sydni Sorensen as the bats of the Lady Badgers it was a positive experience for just about everyone. In a post-game interview Snow College Head Coach Chad Larsen said, “I think the ladies really pulled things together this weekend… Midland College put on a really good tournament, and I was so grateful to see our team respond with great play.” Later they performed just as good at another tournament held just outside of Henderson Nevada, only losing two games.
Sadly, this success in pre-season didn’t translate to the season directly. The Lady Badgers had a rough start playing the conference’s toughest opponents back to back, losing to both CSI and SLCC within a week of each other. Sorensen said, “We had a bit of trouble hitting during those first two series… we have all the pieces; we just need to put them together.” When asked about the 7 game losing streak she said, “Even though we didn’t win, we still had fun. We are really close and not a lot of drama happens on the team, so it’s always fun to play with the girls.”
With the halfway point of the season approaching this weekend, the Lady Badgers are confident that they can keep their defense sharp and add the stellar bats of pre-season to form the team they know they are capable of becoming. As they work through the rest of the season, they look to work their way back and end unlike they started, on top!
Excited to extend the streak, the Snow College Badgers host the Utah State University Eastern Eagles this weekend March 30 and 31st. Games start at 1 p.m. on Friday and Noon on Saturday. Come out and see the hitting and hype of the Lady Badgers!
