The Lady Badgers softball team swept Colorado Northwestern Community College on the road, picking up 4 wins February 31 and January 1.
The team’s offense was impressive during the four game series. The bats stayed hot through all four games and the Lady Badgers scored a total of 32 runs on the weekend.
The Badgers racked up the runs, including hits from sophomore Sydney Butler and freshman Renee Fagg. Together the two powerhouses hit in eight runs. Nicole Weiss, sophomore, also contributed with a two run homerun.
“I feel like as a team we hit solid. Everyone did their part to back each other up and that’s what a winning team does. I was happy with the way we strung hits together and got the job done in all four games” said Butler reflecting on the weekend.
Many of the Badgers hit for extra bases. Freshman Karlee Manzione smacked a homerun and sophomore Ally MacAfee contributed with a pair of doubles. Elise Sutherland also hit well in the series hitting in three runs.
Weiss was a terror to the Spartans defense, going four for four in two games at the plate. She contributed with four runs batted in. “I was really relaxed having fun and hitting the ball hard and solid like I know how” said Weiss.
The pitching staff was tough on the rubber, striking out 24 batters between the two days. The pitchers had a solid defense behind them, allowing the Spartans to score only runs throughout the series.
“For the most part they did their jobs, keeping the batters off balance and hitting their spots” said sophomore catcher Danica Gough.
The Lady Badgers take this week off and then head to Coeur d’ Alene and Twin Falls in the next two weeks to take on Northern Idaho and Southern Idaho in two big conference series.
