Every first Thursday of the month at 6:00, students gather in the Greenwood Student Center to enjoy complimentary soups and the company of their peers. On Thursday December 3rd, students ended the semester with the last “Soup Night” activity of the year. Not only was this the last Soup Night of 2015, but one specified for the stress of finals.
Thursday’s “Soup Night” featured two new soups that had never been presented before, a Tomato Soup and a Chicken and Rice with a slice of cheese bread on the side. Students reacted positively to the choices and the new additions. Along with soup, students were able to decorate holiday sugar cookies as treats, gifts, or deserts.
The usual casual conversation and relaxation was predicted to be absent at this last event before final tests and projects arrived. Student Life came prepared with stress relieving activities to give students a fresh breath of air. A large amount of diverse Lego toys were disputed throughout tables to let student minds create instead of worry. Bubble wrap was provided to remind students the simplicity of things that can temporarily distract them from anxiety. Many students expressed and let out their stress through song. Karaoke was a popular activity that helped lift spirits and spread the holiday cheer.
The Student Body Advocates’ push to “Live Snow Give Snow” has been effected by small and simple acts of kindness, one day at a time, building a semester of service. The students of Snow College 2015 have changed the atmosphere for a lasting betterment. This “Soup Night” event that began this fall semester has been a trend that will hope to continue into a Snow College tradition.
