Senator Mike Lee stopped by Snow College to hold a Town Hall Meeting for Sanpete County on August
27, 2014. Founders Hall was full of Sanpete county locals expressing their concerns to Mike Lee and
staff.
Snow College student Haylie Miller was surprised that there weren’t more student who attended, she
says “I knew it was a thing in politics that older people are the largest voting demographic but I didn’t
think that it was because they were the only ones that showed up.”
She wishes that in the future events like these are publicized better so that Snow students get the
experience of meeting one out of the 100 senators in the United States.
Questions came from the community regarding The Hero Act, private land rights, immigration, and core
curriculum. Senator Mike Lee focused most on his efforts to increase access and funding to higher
education.
Before leaving the town hall meeting Haylie and her friend wanted to get a picture with Senator Lee
which turned into an adventure. “We met his manager and he took our cameras and he told us to go
down the stairs and wait and they would bring Senator Lee to us. We then came up with the name
Operation Badger Den.”
They then waited as Senator Lee finished talking to members of the community and sure enough the
manager brought Senator Lee down the stairs and they took a quick picture, and walked out of the
building with him.
It is rare that students at Snow College get to meet Senators nonetheless get a picture with them.
