Justin Bieber once sang, “I just want Somebody to Love.” While it isn’t working out too well for him, I think the logic rings true.

Guys, I have not even come close to figuring out what girls want. So I will leave that up to my counterpart Cheyenne. As for the ladies out there, hopefully this will help you understand the male thinking pattern a little better, and possibly get you a date.

Snow College student, Kyle Seeley gives his viewpoint on the matter, “Every guy has an internal checklist of qualifications he needs to see before he will take the risk of asking a girl out.”

Let’s compare getting asked out to climbing Mt. Everest. There are certain checkpoints you must cross before you get to the top.

Physical attraction is always the first checkpoint. No matter what the guy says or how genuine he may seem, looks are his first priority. Now I am not saying that you have to be Jennifer Aniston, but it does help to try to look nice and presentable as often as reality will permit. They will notice if you care, as opposed to wearing sweats every day (7:30 classes exempt).

Second on the checklist is personality. Guys aren’t always as shallow as they may seem, so you will need to have a good personality. A good personality means being you. It doesn’t matter if you’re a little shy just be the best you that you can be.

The third and last checkpoint is availability and interest. This is where flirting and all that come into play. Be interested in him and he will be interested in you. As I have stated in previous articles, you need to give us more than just “hints.” Guys are most likely oblivious to the hints that seem obvious to you.

A number of other nonverbal techniques can be used to tap into his subconscious. For more on that I recommend Sandra Cox’s interpersonal communications class.

It is possible that he will never ask you out. If the above tips don’t work you can try hypnotism, but I would recommend moving on to someone else and repeating these steps. When used properly these steps will yield many dates and just maybe you, will find somebody to love.
