As a college student, the ability to write a well-written essay is often relied upon. Writing may come easily to some, but writing at a college level proves to be a challenge for many students. Luckily, Snow College has a writing lab with writing tutors to help any student struggling with any type of writing assignment.
One of the writing tutors, Rhett Steadman, explains that the tutors are there to “help students be better writers. Steadman further explains, saying, “our job isn’t necessarily to go through with a red pen and mark everything that’s wrong and tell them to fix it; we’re here to help them essentially learn basic skills of writing so that they can use these skills for the rest of their lives, not just for college.”
When asked if there was anything he thought students should know about the writing lab and tutors, Steadman replied, “just that it’s fun. We like to help people and we’re not scary.” Steadman describes the tutor lab as having a “fun, learning atmosphere” as well as a “welcoming environment.” He says there are even candies and breath mints, “so tutors don’t have nasty breath”.
The tutors work in the writing lab located in the Humanities building. The writing lab is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.; Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Writing tutors are available Monday trough Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.; Friday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Appointments are not necessary to get help from a tutor during tutor hours, and most college students will be happy to know that it is completely free. Any students needing help with their writing assignments are welcome to access help from the tutors in the writing lab.
