The Badgers opened up Stoddard Stadium on Sat. Sept. 6 for their first victory on their home field against the Arizona Western College Matadors 24-7, they remain undefeated.
The Badgers (ranked 12th in the WSFL) welcomed the Matadors (ranked 10th) to their field on Saturday with an estimated 1400 people in attendance. While the score at the end of the first half was tied at just seven, the second half of the game saw more scoring action take place; the Badgers scored 17 points and held the Matadors scoreless.
At the beginning of the second half the Badgers made a 65-yard drive in 13 plays over six minutes which led to a 32-yard field goal by kicker Conner McRae to take the lead 10-7. After getting a stop on defense the Badgers got the ball back just in time to score another touchdown just before the end of the third period. Badgers QB Alex Kuresa threw a four-yard pass to wide-receiver Tui Satuala, Jr. with just 0:09 left in the period.
Then in the fourth the Badgers scored another touchdown on a 58 yard drive in 11 plays. Wide out Jonah Trinnaman scored on an eight-yard reverse on fourth down to secure the victory for the Badgers.
Kuresa finished the game with 207 yards on 20 of 32 passing and two passing touchdowns. While Jonah Trinnaman scored two touchdowns for the Badgers and Chris Copier caught four passes for 61 yards.
The Badgers will look to hold on to their perfect winning record early on this season at home again vs. current defending WSFL champion Scottsdale on Saturday.
