Last Friday, some students may have noticed the fire alarms blaring across campus in each building. Many students around campus have wondered why, and the solution is very simple.
Utah State law requires that the fire alarms be checked once per semester to make sure they still make noise and flash lights. Many students that are here on campus feel that such drills are unnecessary, due to students unintentionally setting off such alarms anyway.
A student recalls such an event at Castilleja Hall where the entire building had to evacuate at 5:30 A.M. due to someone’s cooking. Others at Academy Square Suites have had similar experiences.
The safety of students is important. Although it may cause an inconvenience, it’s a good thing to make sure fire alarms are doing their job.
