Last Friday, the Ukrainian and Russian governments agreed on a ceasefire in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine. TheBlaze.com says the two sides reached an agreement after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the contents of which Poroshenko announced via Twitter that same day. Despite several violations of the ceasefire by both sides, the agreement is considered unbroken.

At the end of last week’s NATO summit Friday, President Obama said he was skeptical of the ceasefire agreement. According to USAtoday.com, Obama stated, “We are hopeful, but based on past experience also skeptical that in fact the separatists will follow through and that Russia will stop violating Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” He indicated that sanctions against Russia would not only continue, but also deepen, unless the ceasefire and other peace talks are able to successfully end the Ukrainian conflict.
