A trip of a lifetime ended tragically, when Sevier County residents were in a car accident leaving only one survivor.

Richard and Tammy Barnett along with another couple, Mitch and Ruth Peterson, were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. A semi-truck struck the SUV as it was making a right turn. They went to New Zealand on vacation, and were headed to an LDS temple at the time of the collision.

The New Zealand Herald stated the sound of the crash was “ferocious” and that eyewitnesses saw a “plume of black smoke come up” after hearing the sound.

There was another Sevier County couple on vacation that was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Richard Barnett, the survivor of the crash has since been released from the hospital.

There have been accounts set up to donate to the families of the victims.  You can donate at http://www.gofundme.com/tammybarnett to the Barnett family, or at http://www.gofundme.com/okiowo for the Peterson family.
