Go to the Labs and Stress No More

There comes a time in every college student’s life when they are going to need academic assistance. Snow College has tried to ease this problem by opening labs around campus.

Snow College offers the services of tutoring centers or labs.  Each lab is specifically designated to a subject. At the labs, students can get free tutoring on the specific subject that the lab specializes in. In every lab, there are tutors who have been trained to answer questions, assist with assignments, and help the students in any way they can. Going into tutoring labs gives students an opportunity to ask specific questions, and to be shown step by step how to tackle their questions.

Mary Barlow, a first-year music major has been visiting the Music Theory Lab since the beginning of the fall semester. When asked about her experiences going into the labs, she said, “It’s free and convenient. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t go. I like going to the labs because I am working with other students who have taken the same courses that I am taking. I leave the lab always feeling more confident in my work, and myself.”

Many Professors on campus encourage their students to take time out of their week to go visit one of the labs. Some professors will require a lab visit as an assignment which can only be completed by having a tutor sign it off.

Malynda Bjerregaard, a communications professor and director of the Communications Lab is part of that group of professors who makes visiting a lab a requirement. Professor Bjerregaard was asked why she makes her students go to the lab.  “The quality of the assignments has significantly improved since I’ve started sending my students to the lab. The improvement in quality is why I require my students to go to the lab.”

All students of Snow College should make it a goal to take advantage of the tutoring and assistance offered in the labs by visiting them this semester.
