Movie Magic Under the Stars

For most College Students, summer is a time for working to save up for the upcoming semester; however, summer is also prime time for warm weather activities such as barbeques, camping, and watching movies.

The Basin Drive-In Movie Theater in Mt. Pleasant stands as a place where all these summer activities can be enjoyed. The theater consists of a giant outdoor screen in front of a parking lot where cars can view the movie. The Basin Theater is the oldest of four operating drive-in movie theaters in Utah. Built in the 1960’s, this theater has played movies as old as The Ten Commandments and continues to play up to date movies now.

In a rural county, attending the outdoor theater is an attractive activity to many families. Said student Chaise Ludvigson, who grew up a resident of Sanpete County, “I remember it was always a bit cold, but always a lot of fun. We’d sit on top of our car or in the bed of the truck and snuggle up in blankets to watch the movie.”

Along with movies, the Basin Drive-In is known for their hamburgers served at the Basin Drive-In Restaurant. The Basin Drive-In Theater is currently playing shows nightly. For more information about the Basin Drive-In Theater visit www.sanpetemovies.com.
