Leonard Nimoy, famously known as Spock from “Star Trek,” died on Friday, February 27, 2015.

Nimoy was 83 years old at the time of his passing. The cause of death was determined to be the endstages of heart disease. He died in his home, surrounded by family.  Many have mourned the loss, and many have also sought ways to honor the late actor.

William Shatner, who also starred in “Star Trek” alongside Nimoy, was unable to attend the funeral. In order to show his love and respect, he held a “twitter funeral” for his co-star in which he answered questions from fans regarding the actor. One of the questions asked of Shatner was what his favorite role of Nimoy’s was. He responded that he liked him best as a friend.

In Canada, a company known as the Canadian Design Resource used Twitter to invite fans to join them in drawing Spock on their $5 notes. The bills feature Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who bears a slight resemblance to Leonard Nimoy. This has been a practice for years, in spite of the questionable legality of it.

Two video game developers have announced that they will pay tribute to the man in their upcoming scifi games. Michael Brookes, the executive producer of the game Elite: Dangerous said, “There’ll be a Nimoy Memorial station added in the… update.”

Twitter has been used to report most of the happenings since his death, and Nimoy also used the social media site a short time before his death to tell followers, “A life is like a garden. Perfect memories can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. [Live long and prosper].”

Nicholas Nuttall, age 22, a resident of the town of Rescue, California is now finishing up his fourth semester at Snow College. Once he graduates with his English major he intends to attend BYU. This is his second semester working with the school newspaper.
