If students are looking for a place to express themselves musically head over to the Solid Rock Cafe. The Solid Rock Café holds an Open Mic Night every Thursday from 7-9. They started hosting Open Mic Night to allow a spot for student as well as Ephraim residents to show off their musical talents and gifts.

“I think it’s important that there’s a place for songwriters and weirdos to express themselves,” said Chris Fales, a Snow College student who enjoys performing during Open Mic Night.

Not only do they want to give those with musical gifts a place to perform but they also want to give those who aren’t performers a place to come, hang out and listen to good music. When Kate Olson was asked what she thought of The Solid Rock Café and Open Mic Night, she said; “This is the raddest and chillest place to hang out outside of campus.”

Anyone is welcomed to perform. However, you do have to sign up in The Solid Rock Café. Each performer is allowed two songs per session depending on the amount of people signed up. Since The Solid Rock Café is a Christian café they do not allow profanity in the performers song choices. Every once in awhile they have a featured band who performs for half an hour as well. They don’t happen every Thursday but when they do happen everyone who shows up jams out. Savannah Chamberlain said, “I feel 10,000 times cooler hanging here.” If you want to hear good live music head over to The Solid Rock Café every Thursday at 7!

Desiree is from Herriman, Utah and is now a freshman at Snow College. She is planning on majoring in Communications, specifically the journalism side of it. She enjoys anything music related and has taught herself how to play the guitar and ukulele. After finishing her education at Snow, Dez is going to make her way to Tennessee to begin her life, but she hopes her career in Journalism will take her everywhere else, too. But who knows, those plans could change in the next two years.
