‘Twas the Night before Finals…
‘Twas the night before finals and throughout most apartments,
Snow students sat studying, considering arson.
At two in the morning, no one longer cared,
But going to bed, not one student dared.
Students wished they were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of failing pounded their heads.
My roommate in pajamas, and I in a coat,
Had just sat down, yet again, to study more notes.
When out by our cars arose such a clatter,
We sprung up, gratefully, to see what was the matter.
Out the door we ran, at irrational speeds,
Grateful for the excuse to avoid our studies.
But not a thing we saw so we began to trudge,
Back through the snow moving slower than sludge.
When what to our wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.
I looked at my roommate and said, “This can’t be right.”
To which she replied, “Bro, I think we’re high.”
“I doubt it.” I said. “But fried are our brains.”
“True,” she agreed. “Finals make everyone clinically insane.”
The man in the sleigh then summoned us near,
And like robots we walked toward him and his deer.
He looked like Santa, we realized, through our sleepy eyes.
He then commented, “You two look like you’re about to die.”
“We feel like it, too.” We then said.
“Finals make us wish we were dead.”
“Keep up the hard work!” he said like a friend,
He winked then added, “It will be worth it in the end.”
“Remember,” He continued, “To get some more sleep.”
“That will help lower your stress during finals week!”
He then turned around and hopped in his sleigh,
And we went back to the apartment, planning to obey.
As he flew through the sky we heard him cry,
“Good luck on finals to all, and to all a good night!”
