Chris Rock hosted the 2016 Oscars, and the results are in.  The following films were nominated for best picture: The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, The Martian,Room, and Spotlight. Mad Max: Fury Road did not win in this category, but still managed to win six awards. The show came to an end with the film Spotlight earning the top prize. As for the award for best actor in a supporting role, Mark Rylance won for his astounding role in Bridge of Spies. Some honorable mentions were Christian Bale in The Big Short and Sylvester Stallone in Creed. The final mention for the night, the film that won the award for best animated feature film, went to Disney’s more recent movie, Inside Out.

Surprisingly, throughout Leonardo DiCaprio’s long career of acting going as far back as Titanic, he has never won an Oscar until this year. He obtained an Academy Award for best actor for his performance in the movie The Revenant while the award for best actress went to Brie Larson for her role in Room. Did we expect these results? Maybe not, but DiCaprio did. In fact, he even wrote his speech and rehearsed it. Overall, it was an amazing night. With new movies already coming out soon, such as the new Captain America and Batman vs. Superman, the race for next year’s’ oscars could be a close call, but only time will tell.
