On October 20, in Marriott Slaterville, Weber County, Cory S. Bertine was seen driving the wrong way on I-15, resulting in a fatal crash.

Utah Highway Patrol first received calls of a car going the wrong way in the southbound lanes of I-15 at about 9:40 p.m. on Monday, the 20th. Unsuccessfully, Utah Highway Patrol troopers tried to stop Bertine, including attempting to ram his vehicle, but he exited the freeway and immediately got back on, continuing northbound.

Bertine drove north on southbound I-15 against traffic for over nine miles on the freeway. He then hit two vehicles and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Dwayne Baird stated that the driver of the first car was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the driver of the second car was treated for minor injuries. There were no passengers in any of the three cars, and all drivers were wearing seat belts and had no signs of being impaired.

Carlos Valdez, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, passed away the morning of the 21st, hours after his van was hit in the crash.
