As students come to Snow College to get started on their college degrees, many have dreams and aspirations to become nurses, doctors, dentists, and any other job in the medical field. They come here to find a good start, a good background, and an amazing opportunity to learn on a more personal level from some of the finest professors that the state of Utah has to offer - one of those professors is Dr. Jed Rasmussen.
Dr. Jed Rasmussen started teaching here at Snow College as a professor of physiology in 2016. He spoke on teaching saying, “I love being able to teach because I love being able to help people understand concepts that may seem hard, it wasn’t always my plan it took me until I was 33 years old to realise this is what I wanted to do. . . I also enjoy teaching because it gives me an opportunity to be able to help students to succeed .” He enjoys teaching at Snow College and loves what it is like here.
Dr. Rasmussen has an array of schooling and practice in the subjects that he teaches. He received his A.A. from Snow College in 2005 followed by his Bachelors in Biochemistry from Utah State in 2007.
Following what seemed to be a lot of school, Dr. Rasmussen then received his PhD in Microbiology, as well as his Post-Doctoral Fellowship in both the Department of Microbiology and the Department of Otolaryngology from the University of Iowa from the years 2015-2017.
Moving back to Utah, Dr. Rasmussen came back to teach at Snow College, he talked about his decision “ I loved Snow College when I was here because I felt like I got the best out of my education and I was able to be personable with the teachers and I wanted to be able to come back and do the same.”
One unique thing Dr. Rasmussen said about himself that no one else knows was very unique. “I don’t feel like I have anything unique about me, but I feel like it is unique that I want to help the students as much as I do just as so many professors do here at Snow College.”
Dr. Rasmussen also advised students pursuing a career in the medical field saying, “ Read Read Read, reading and being able to comprehend what you are reading will help you as you pursue your career so much more and help you with every class you take. . . reading is the foundation and if you can build upon that you will succeed in school. ” So to all Snow students, keep working hard and chase those career dreams.
