Snow College’s Natural Resource (NR) club went up Ephraim canyon September 13, 2025, to hike, listen to elk bugle, and go glassing (look at far away animals with binoculars or a spotting scope).

Chad Dewey, the professor over the NR club, spoke of why he loves the club, “I love being able to watch someone experience something for the first time”. For a few students on the trip, it was their first time hearing what an elk sounds like.

There was some concern about how the activity would pan out because of the weather. It started to snow, so the club ate sandwiches in the car to wait it out. After a couple of minutes, the snow had gone, and the sun had come back out.

Alexa Stavast, a member of the NR club, talked about her experience, by saying “It’s fun activities and free food!”

The students ended the 4-hour trip with the drive back down the canyon looking at sheep, deer, and the changing color of the fall leaves.
