With summer fast approaching, many students will start their search for summer jobs or internships that they may need to complete for their major. How do students go about this search though? One resource could be the Handshake app.

Handshake is a school-based network that students can use to help them find and apply for jobs/internships in the area that they are at. The Handshake app is tailored to meet students' searches for jobs. Students are able to set their preferences for jobs or internships that meet their academic backgrounds and schooling that they’ve completed.

Student Paige Ison said, “When I used Handshake, it listed both campus jobs and other jobs in the area.” So any student that might be looking for a summer job close to them will be able to find one using the app.

Not only can students find jobs on the Handshake app, they can also improve or adjust their resume. Students can look at requirements that jobs have posted and see whether their resume fits the job or not.

When asked whether students should already have a resume, Ison responded with, “I think before you start looking for a job in general, you need to make sure your resume is ready to go. That way as soon as you find a job opening, you can apply right away.”

Finding a job, either for right now or for the summer, can be made easy for students when they use the Handshake app. When applying for a job, it’s wise for students to have a resume ready to go and to check what the job posting requires.
