For all Snow College travelers out there, there is a new place to go.  It is time to pack up the bags and go to the new Gulf of America! That is right, it is no longer the Gulf of Mexico, but the Gulf of America.

On February 9, 2025, President Donald J. Trump announced an official statement through whitehouse.gov saying, “Today, I am very honored to recognize February 9, 2025, as the first ever Gulf of America Day,”  as well saying, “As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America.”

This is a big decision that President Trump made, some calling it the one of the most controversial changes that he has made, and a head scratcher as to why he would even do that. Snowdrift wanted to hear what Snow College students had to say about it.

Tyler Stoffers said, “It doesn’t really bother me. To me it just seems like nonsense to make a big deal out of it. If I call it Gulf of Mexico or Gulf or America it is the same thing people will know what I am talking about.”

Bret Lyman, a US History major said, “I like it, I think it is a pretty cool feature to be able to have the Gulf of America on there, it just shows some American pride and something I definitely want to go to visit even more. I wanted to go there before but now it will be cool to say I went to the Gulf of America.”

As Snow students talk about the name change regarding the Gulf of America, there are many different opinions. As we can see, some students may like the name change and some may not care or be a fan of it at all. Ask roommates,  neighbors in class, or someone who is walking to school what they think about it. Who knows you may make a friend out of it as well.
