Dual Concerts

The rehearsal halls at Snow College are sounding a bit busier than usual this semester. The

choral department is currently juggling major concerts scheduled back-to-back, with a Spring

Break squarely in the middle.

The choirs are preparing for a performance on February 27th, followed quickly by another on

March 16th. While that might look like a comfortable gap on a calendar, the reality is much

tighter. With Spring Break falling between March 2nd and 6th, the singers will return to campus

with only one week of practice left before the second curtain rises. To stay ahead, the

ensembles are tackling the music for both concerts simultaneously.

Musical Multi-Tasking

Learning a single set of songs is demanding enough, but the students are currently juggling two

distinct programs. This means shifting gears mid-rehearsal—moving from the patriotic, stirring

tones of the February 27th concert, I Lift My Lamp: America at 250, straight into the complex

arrangements for the March 16th showing of The Redeemer.

To make it work, the choirs are focusing on the I Lift My Lamp music on most days, since that

concert is first and they need to make the music performance ready. But they also make sure to

focus on The Redeemer music at least once a week to make sure that they can add the

finishing touches in March before the concert. Students have also been heavily encouraged to

make use of practice tracks and go over songs at home.

Rising to the Challenge

This compressed schedule is a true test of the students' discipline. While the pressure is on,

there is a palpable sense of energy in the Eccles Center. Choral director Dr. Michael Huff says,

"We are fortunate at Snow College to have an abundance of talented singers. With our

early-spring concert happening right before Spring Break, and a performance with Jenny Oaks

Baker and Kurt Bestor happening just over a week after Spring Break, the singers have been

working hard to master both programs. Their ability to deliver on both concerts is a tribute to

their collective talent and amazing work ethic!" When the choirs take the stage for that second

performance on March 16th, the audience will be hearing the result of weeks of dedicated

practice.

Experience the Harmony

The Snow College Music Department invites the community to support these hardworking

student-musicians as they bring these two distinct programs to life. Whether you are moved by

the stirring history of America or the intricate beauty of choral masterworks, there is a seat

waiting for you in the hall.
