The Model UN club is a club that gets together to represent different countries within the United Nations like Mexico, Canada, and Europe. As a club, the team members choose issues happening around the world and come up with a topic to debate. Model UN requires one to use a lot of third person and act as if they are a representative member of that country. You use “we or the delegation of…” Model UN teaches a lot about how to debate, have a civil argument, and to communicate in a calmly and appropriate manner. It gives life lessons on acting smartly and naturally, to hear each other out and to solve things instead of getting mad and pointing fingers at all the mishaps. “As a presidency we have been trying to spread more word on it and we hope to have fundraisers to help us as students grow and become productive members of society.”

The snow college model UN club is serious but there is lots of fun to be had and growth. There are opportunities to meet other schools and debate and stand for other countries. Hunter McCullough, Secretary of the club says, “I recently had the opportunity of going to Laramie, Wyoming and represent the country of Iraq. I was on the economic council and through the debate we talked about how to resolve issues, for example, how do we combat a economic crisis that all countries can agree with.” Model UN teaches how to use specific words and be polite and learn more about what is going on in the world around us. Neat opportunities that also help get good jobs and have better experiences throughout life. It looks amazing on a resume and brings growth in a way it could not be learned otherwise. It is a small club so the team members have a hard time acquiring funding to go to competitions and events. The majority of the club is the presidency and a few members that show throughout the week. “Model UN has been a place of growth for me. I learned, first-hand, how to solve real-world issues and how significant a role the United Nations. Being a part of this club has also been a very fun experience!”
