This will be the last printed version of the SnowDrift Newspaper. Do not worry, SnowDrift will still be publishing online at snowcollegenews.com Due to budget cuts, printing is no longer going to be available for the newspaper.  Will this be a good change of pace? What will happen to the Newspaper and Media Writing classes? “The program will still be available with minor changes, the main however will be the movement itself (Sandra Cox).”

Currently, there are typically four production nights per semester, where students from the Newspaper class and media writing come together to edit articles and make a print layout.

There are four teams that one can be a part of: Photography, Layout, Editing, and Online. Each student is assigned a photographer for the semester. They are in charge of contacting these photographers for each of their eight articles. Editors will receive these articles and list suggestions on how to fix it before a production night.

Production nights happen four nights a semester on top of the class. This is where the layout team and those in charge of online come into play. Layout works with the InDesign Program. Each person will get a page to work on and design a layout for.

“I never planned on joining SnowDrift and it kind of happened accidentally, but it has been so much fun and a cool experience. Learning how to write for a newspaper and the differences between that and an essay has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me new skills and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m sad that it's moving online. I think that seeing a physical newspaper is a cool feeling to see your own work in person on paper. I do understand that it's just part of the times and everything moving online that this was almost inevitable.” said Sally Owens.

SnowDrift is different for everyone. It’s a good opportunity to learn about media writing and meet new people; an opportunity to consider for next semester. After this edition of the paper, more SnowDrift Content can be found on snowcollegeNews.com
