On Friday, September 12, nearly 350 students and community members gathered together at the bell tower to honor Charlie Kirk with a Candle Light vigil. Two days prior, the conservative activist was assassinated at Utah Valley University, leaving many people feeling devastated.

When asked why he wanted to host this event, Zachary Brown, a student of Snow College, said, "I knew him personally, he was so moderate,” meaning he was one of the least extremes. The event was held for those who wanted to come and pay their respects to Kirk. Brown went on to say, “He taught me to stand up for what I believe in, and to never be afraid to use my voice even down to his last dying breath.”

To honor the politician, people in attendance brought candles both for themselves as well as ones to share, along with several floral bouquets. Stories and testimonies were shared and “the feeling that evening was one of unity.” Said student, Chloe Crockett.

For any student who may be struggling, there are several resources on campus that are here to help. Reach out to the Wellness Center, located behind the Business Building, next to the Career Center. Students can go in person or call 435.283.7136 to make an appointment.
