Miley Cyrus dropped her new song, “Flowers” on January 13, 2023. The second the song hit music platforms, theories about it were everywhere. Fans claim the song is a stab at her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. Here is what we know about the new single.
January 13 was no ordinary day. The day “Flowers” was released was in fact Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday. Coincidence? Macy Emerick, a Student here at Snow, said, “Oh the song is definitely about Liam. Every line is clearly talking about their relationship.” So Emerick, along with many other Snow College students, think this is no coincidence.
The song also references a home that she and Liam shared in Malibu. The lyrics say, “Built a home and watched it burn.” The couple's home was burned down in a forest fire in 2018. Emerick said, “There is no way she can literally have a house burn down and say something like that in a song and not be referencing it.”
The other theories flying around have to do with the song, “When I was your man” by Bruno mars. It’s unclear if it was their wedding song, a song Hemsworth dedicated to Cyrus, or just a song played at their wedding. But fans are going crazy over the number of similarities between the two. If Badgers read the lyrics of the songs side by side, they might just start to see them. For every lyric Bruno Mars says, Miley Cyrus has one of the opposites. For example, Mars says, “I shoulda bought you flowers” meanwhile Cyrus says, “I can buy myself flowers”
This list of similarities, connections, and theories can go on and on. It has not been confirmed that the song is about Hemsworth, and fans and students are thinking it might never be said, but remains just that, a theory.
