What started as a quirky backyard pastime is now taking center court, with pickleball fever sweeping the nation like never before. This sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and is played on a smaller court, perfect for beginners and seasoned athletes.

A game of pickleball can be played with two people (singles) or four people (doubles). The game is played when one serves the ball and is played until the ball bounces twice on one side, or someone hits it out of bounds. A game is usually played until one team reaches 11 points.

Pickleball has rapidly gained popularity at Snow College, reflecting its growing appeal across the United States. Not only are there classes offered to play pickleball for credit, but there is a Snow College Pickleball Club. You can find the club’s play schedule and meeting times on their Instagram page: @snowpickleballclub.

Another beautiful part of pickleball is that it can be played inside or outside. When asked about his favorite part of Pickleball Club, president of the club Carter Jones said, “It is a great way to get a break in your week and to be there with like-minded people who love pickleball and are there for a good time.”

As we come upon the warmer spring months, the tennis courts will become home to local pickleball players of all ages. Pickleball can be a great date, or an activity for the whole family to enjoy.

Pickleball has quickly become one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, and it shows no signs of slowing down. As more people discover the joy of how fun, yet simplistic, the game of pickleball can be, it will continue to grow in popularity.
